Javāmeʿal-Bayān dar Tarjomān al-Qurʾān is a Persian-Arabic Qurʾānic dictionary written by the Ḥubaysh-e Teflisi in sixth-century AH. This dictionary, which belongs among the earliest books written in Persian in Asia Minor, is considerable significance, like Teflisi’s other works, from several perspectives, particularly for gaining a clearer understanding of the use of the Persian language within the linguistic sphere of north western Iran. Moreover the linguistic examination of Teflisi’s Qurʾānic works, such as Javāmeʿal-Bayān and vojuh al Qurʾān is importance since they are the only extant works of this kind that have come down to us from that linguistic region. This dictionary, Comprising approximately 5,000 Qurʾānic entries and their Persian meanings, is written in simple language, through brevity and expression of linguistic rules, with the aim of easy understanding and use by scholars. In this study, the linguistic features of this dictionary and its advantages compared to similar dictionaries have been examined with an analytical-descriptive approach, and with a comparative method, the linguistic findings of this study are as follows: This dictionary includes many rare Persian words and combinations, rare pronunciations, phonetic transformations, recordings of words close to or corresponding to their Pahlavi form, old forms of grammatical categories, etc. that were common in western Iran; the meanings and definitions of words have a special elegance, semantic diversity, and precision; the Qurʾānic meanings in this dictionary are more numerous; the way this dictionary was compiled strengthens its educational and practical aspects compared to other dictionaries.
