Among the classical texts of world literature, Kalila and Dimna holds a position beyond that of a mere literary work. It functions as a repository of narrative archetypes that, over centuries, have influenced the ethical, political, and cognitive structures of societies in both the East and the West. The present study aims to uncover the hidden narrative organization of the stories in Kalila and Dimna in Nasrullah Monshi’s Persian translation. The central problem of the research is to examine how meaning is generated and how relations of power are reproduced through the narrative structures of these allegorical tales. This research adopts a descriptive–analytical method and employs a combined theoretical framework based on Vladimir Propp’s morphology of narrative functions and Algirdas Julien Greimas’s actantial model. Through structural and semiotic analysis of selected stories, the study investigates the narrative mechanisms that shape the development of events and the roles of narrative actors. The findings indicate that, unlike classical fairy tales, the narrative system of Kalila and Dimna replaces physical confrontation with strategies of deception and discursive conflict. Moreover, narrative crises often emerge when characters prematurely move from cognitive competence—reflection and knowledge—to immediate physical action. The study concludes that Kalila and Dimna should not be viewed merely as a simple didactic collection, but rather as a complex narrative system in which survival and authority depend on knowledge, strategic thinking, and control of discourse.
