Tarikh Jahangushai by Aladdin Attamalek Juwayni is one of the masterpieces of technical and decorative Persian prose in the 7th century. Ever since technical prose was created in the history of Persian literature, poetic themes became widely popular in prose. Considering the language of Jahangushai's text, it is possible to observe the emotional and literary function of the work along with its historical reports. One of the most used emotions in this work is sadness and one of the products of sadness in poetry is an elegy.
Most of the researchers have dedicated the elegies only to the cases where the speaker expresses his impression about the loss of people; but in Persian prose and poetry texts, in addition, we can see cases where the speaker expresses his emotional impact towards the loss of a social or spiritual value. The Tarikh Jahangushai has always considered certain values and ideals, creates an emotional relationship with them, and mourns their loss.
This research tries to examine the Juwayni's Tarikh Jahangushai from the point of view of mourning the death of values. For this purpose, first there is an overview of the types of elegies. Then, he divides the contents of the elegies on the destruction of various moral, religious, cultural and national values and examines the factors influencing the creation of elegies by mentioning examples in each case. The result of this study shows that the lamentation of the death of social, religious and moral values is the most important lamentation.
